2017 Local Election Results

(L to R; Nicole Dozier – Apex, Bridget Wall-Lennon – Wake Forest, Jessica Day – Knightdale)

In 2017, Advance Carolina and their partners worked hard to ensure we supported the expansion of Black representation in our local elections.

The Big Story…Black women winning from Cleveland County to Wake County.

  2. Charlotte elected their first Black woman mayor! Vi Lyles beat the incumbent Mayor in the primary and held off her republican challenger in the General Election.
  3. Town of Kingstown elected their first Black women mayor!
  4. Town of Harrisburg, 4% Black population, elected Diamond Staton-Williams to their town commission.
